Scented Shores. Interactive Olfactory Installation
Cité de l'Océan
Biarritz, France
How does the ship’s hold or seaweed smell? Could you recognize the scent of the sea or distinguish the smell of fish or oysters? Indissoluble designs and produces for the Cité de l’Océan the “Scent Table,” a playful and interactive olfactory experience aimed at bringing museum visitors closer to the aromas of the sea.
Indissoluble’s proposal for this installation at the Cité de l’Océan materializes in an organic design table, created from the overlay of layers of plywood milled using CNC (Computer Numerical Control) technology, generating a topography that evokes the depth of the ocean. The base of the table, also made of wood, is lacquered in white and complemented with a perimeter sheet of white aluminum.
This olfactory experience offers users the opportunity to explore ten different aromas. Each station of the table features an odor dispenser, allowing visitors to approach the aroma enhancer and enjoy the essence of the selected element. Additionally, each station includes a glass dome that encapsulates a visual representation of the aroma in question, along with a digital screen that provides expanded information about said aroma.
With this interactive installation, the Cité de l’Océan invites its visitors to immerse themselves in the sensory richness of the sea and enjoy its most characteristic aromas, creating a memorable experience that stimulates the senses.
